Oriveti OD100 Review – Master of Minute

Comparisons –

Final E2000 ($45): The E2000 has a very similar style of tuning being slightly more linear through the bass/midrange transition, more laid-back in the midrange and regaining emphasis in the lower-treble. This lends it a relaxed v-shaped sound where the OD100 is warm but balanced. Both earphones have a similar bass presentation, that being warm and punchy. The E2000 appears to have a bit more bass as its midrange and high end aren’t as present. While the E2000 has slightly more texture, the OD100 delivers more impact and a slightly more defined note. The midrange tuning is similar on both just being more laid-back on the E2000.

This makes the OD100 sound noticeably more balanced while the E2000 is more obviously warm and full. Both are articulate earphones; this is more evident on the E2000 as its treble appears more forward by comparison to its midrange. The treble on both is crisp and foreground focused. The E2000 sounds crisper and thinner while the OD100 has a bit more note body and resolving power. That said, the semi-open design of the E2000 gives it an edge on soundstage expansion as it sounds impressively spacious for its asking price. The E2000 gives decent foreground definition and a distant background while the OD100 lacks the same expansion but delivers sharper imaging and better separation instead.

Moondrop Aria ($79): The Aria delivers a slightly more balanced tonality alongside a slightly better technical performance. Bass is slightly more linear with less mid and upper-bass warmth alongside slightly better sub-bass extension. The Aria has better separation while the OD100 is punchier and more fun overall. While both earphones are well tuned within the midrange, the Aria is once again more linear, delivering a more coherent sound with more balanced vocals. The OD100 is a bit more vocal forward and also has a warmer tonality.

While both have similar clarity this lends the OD100 a more coloured sound even if both sound naturally voiced overall. The treble is more even on the Aria too. While the OD100 has greater bite on the leading edge of notes, the Aria has more authentic note body and texture alongside superior extension that gives it a better sense of background detail. This is most notable with regards to soundstage where the Aria delivers larger dimensions and better layering. The OD100 does separate well but the Aria’s imaging is noticeably more accurate and nuanced.

Verdict –

The OD100 is a very interesting offering and will no doubt find a supportive niche for its unique set of qualities. Oriveti mention on their website that the goal was to create a hardy daily driver with a clear sound and particular focus on a compact and ergonomic design. To this end, the company has achieved great success. Where there are even smaller bullet-style earphones like the E2000 and Tyr, the OD100 benefits from a full-size dynamic driver and dedicated over-ear design. Indeed, the OD100 disappears in the ear and will achieve comfort even for those with that struggle with regular IEMs. Sonically, it performs right around where it should for the asking price. The company has done a good job at delivering an engaging yet balanced sound that lacks offensive features. The OD100 also sports a removable cable and excellent build quality with its svelte and well-finished metal housings. While better sound can be had as demonstrated by the Moondrop Aria comparison, the OD100 delivers a sound technical performance with an appealing tonality augmented by near class-leading build quality, compactness and ergonomics.

The OD100 is available from Oriveti (International) for $69.90 USD at the time of writing. I am not affiliated with Oriveti and receive no earnings from purchases made through these links.
